Practical Training Programme On Basic Life Support (BLS) A highly informative and practical training programme on Basic Life Support (BLS) was successfully organized by the Institute of Nursing, South Campus, University of Kashmir on 25th September 2025. The initiative aimed to equip participants with essential life-saving skills crucial in emergency situations. Our college was privileged to be invited to participate in this vital programme. A contingent of ten (10) students who are dedicated NSS Volunteers and students of the Home Science Department actively and enthusiastically represented our institution. The participating students, drawn from the Home Science Department and active in the National Service Scheme (NSS), demonstrated a strong commitment to community service and skill enhancement. They were accompanied and guided by the NSS Programme Officer, Prof. Masroofa Qadir, who ensured their smooth participation and coordination throughout the event. Programme Highlights and Learning Outcomes The Basic Life Support (BLS) programme was comprehensive and featured both theoretical sessions and intensive practical, hands-on training. Key areas covered included: Recognition of Emergencies: Identifying signs of cardiac arrest, choking, and other life-threatening situations. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR): Detailed instruction and practice on chest compressions and rescue breaths for adults, children, and infants. Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Usage: Training on the safe and effective operation of an AED device. Our students participated with immense zeal and concentration, actively engaging in the practical demonstrations conducted on manikins. Their background, particularly as Home Science students, provided a context for understanding the importance of health and emergency preparedness within a family and community setting. The ten participating students expressed profound satisfaction and gratitude for the opportunity. They universally agreed that the training was invaluable, practical, and highly relevant to their roles as NSS volunteers. The skills acquired are directly applicable to the core tenets of the NSS, enabling the volunteers to be effective first responders in campus events, community camps, and their local neighbourhoods.
