The Department of Urdu of the college in collaboration with the UNS Literary and Charitable Society, Srinagar hosted a vibrant Mushaira (poetry symposium) in the college campus today on 11 th June, 2025. The event brought together 20 distinguished poets from across Jammu & Kashmir, captivating the audience with the beauty and depth of Urdu poetry. The day commenced with a warm welcome address by the Principal, Dr. Masood Ahmad Malik who emphasized the enduring importance of Urdu literature and poetry in preserving cultural heritage. Prof. Masroofa Qadir, renowned poet and HOD Urdu of the host college delivered the keynote address setting the tone for the poetic proceedings. The event was deftly conducted by Dr. Nighat Nazar, ensuring a seamless flow of poetic recitations. A special release of Journal Sarsabz, a special edition on Ashraf Adil and his works was also part of the event. Audience also witnessed release of book 300 Quotes by Mrs Fehmeeda. A diverse and accomplished group of poets took the stage, mesmerizing the audience with their eloquent verses. Among the notable participants were Shabnum Ashai, Syed Basharat Bukhari, Adil Ashraf, Anjali Ada, Hinana Barjes, Mubarak Lone, Sagar Nazir, Neelofar Naaz Nehvi, Wajida Tabasum Gurkoo, Prof. Masroofa Qadir, Dr. Nighat Nazar,Tousif Raza etc. The poets presented works spanning various themes – from love, beauty, and social commentary to introspection and contemporary issues – showcasing the versatility and contemporary resonance of Urdu poetry. Their powerful renditions were met with enthusiastic appreciation (*daad*) from the engaged audience. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Mubarak Lone, who expressed gratitude to the participating poets, the organizing institutions (UNS Literary & Charitable Society and the Department of Urdu of the host institution), the college administration, the dedicated staff, and the appreciative audience for making the mushaira a memorable celebration of the Urdu language and its poetic legacy. The mushaira served as a significant platform to foster literary appreciation, nurture emerging and established poetic voices, and reinforce the cultural vibrancy of Anantnag and the wider region.
