o commemorate the World Biodiversity Day 2025, the Departments of Environmental Science and Botany, in collaboration with the Eco Club, organized a one-day seminar on the theme “Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development” on 22-05-2025 under the guidance of the Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Masood Ahmad Malik. The primary objective of the program was to raise awareness and encourage action- oriented behavior in addressing the challenges posed by biodiversity loss within the academic community. The seminar commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Sayar Yaseen, Head, Department of Environmental Science and Convener of the Eco Club wherin he emphasized the need for biodiversity conservation and the importance of instilling a sense of responsibility among youth towards the protection and preservation of rich flora and fauna. In his insightful address, Prof. Sabzar Ahmad Sheikh, Head, Department of Botany, elaborated on the theme of the event and highlighted the significance of such observances and the pivotal role students can play in preserving biodiversity. Prof. Iqbal Hussain Qadri, Department of Botany also shared his valuable insights on the importance of biodiversity and the critical role individuals play in its conservation. The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members including Prof. Haroon Rashid (HoD, Chemistry), Firdose A. Mir (Department of Environmental Science), Dr. Javaid Ahmad Wagay, and Dr. Afreen Jan (Department of Botany), alongside Eco Club volunteers and students. Students from the Departments of Botany and Environmental Science delivered presentations on the subject laying emphasis on the need to act as future ambassadors for biodiversity conservation. Their presentations reflected a deep sense of awareness and commitment to ecological sustainability. Later, a Biodiversity Talk was conducted in the Botanical Garden of the college. This interactive session enabled students to explore the diverse plant life within the campus and gain a better understanding of its ecological importance. The seminar proceedings were conducted by Prof. Sayar Yaseen while the formal vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Itoo who expressed heartfelt gratitude to all speakers, collaborators, faculty, students, and support staff for their invaluable contributions.
