Department of Political Science in collaboration with District Police Anantnag organised a one-day awareness programme on New Criminal Laws on 09/04/2025 in the Conference Hall. The programme began with a brief introduction by Prof Farooq Ahmad Malik, Head, Political Science Department wherein he spoke on the significance of new criminal laws in contemporary technological era. The Chief Guest on the occasion Syed Mujahid Haq, DySP Anantnag presented the overall blueprint about the new criminal laws. He deliberated upon the circumstances which prompt to replace the old redundant laws which were in operation since colonial times. These new laws aim at victim-centered justice. He also talked about basic terms pertaining to criminal justice in the light of new criminal laws. Besides, he spoke on the changes brought in the criminal justice system owing to the use of technology. In addition to the Chief Guest, Mr. Sameer Ahmad, SHO also shared his views on these new laws and how they benefit the victims particularly women. He emphasized that it is the need of the hour to get more awareness about these new laws. Besides a victim can also check the progress of the case in online platform. The programme ended with a summary of the discussion and vote of thanks presented by Dr Arshid Iqbal Dar, faculty of the department. The programme was moderated by Prof Javaid Ahmad Kumar, AP Political Science. The whole programme was conducted under the overall supervision of the Principal, Prof. (Dr) Masood Ahmad Malik.
