Standard Club Women College Anantnag Emerges Champion at SKICC in Innovation based Manak Mohotsav In a remarkable and large-scale event titled ‘Manak Mahotsav, on the occasion of World Standards Day 2025’ at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) Srinagar on Monday, 14th of Oct. 2025, in which the premier institutions like NIT’s, Universities and top colleges of J&K participated, organized by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the talented students of standard club Govt. College for Women Anantnag have secured the prestigious second prize. NIT Jalandhar stood first whereas NIT Srinagr got the 3rd prize. What makes the achievement of standard Club GCW Anantnag truly inspiring is that the winning team as well as their mentor hails from a Life Sciences (Zoology) background, an area less traditionally associated with the competitive technical challenge they excelled in and the institute, to which they are associated with, is hardly funded for the projects beyond academics. Their success not only underscores their exceptional skill but also reflects the growing interdisciplinary capabilities embraced by Women College Anantnag. This accomplishment is a special milestone for the college, its principal and the standard club, showcasing the dedication and hard work of its women students. The students’ triumph over competitors from technology-focused institutes like NIT is a testament to their excellence and the high quality of education and mentoring at Women College Anantnag. The college community and proud supporters celebrate this achievement, which promises to inspire more women to pursue and excel in diverse fields beyond conventional boundaries. GCW Anantnag’s Standard Club along with those of other institutions including NIT Jalandhar, SKUAST Jammu, NIT Srinagar, IUST Pulwama, SP College Srinagar participated and added to the grace of this function. Students from GCW Anantnag contributed in the Exhibition on Sustainability Projects (approximately 20 projects in total) that were showcased by participating colleges/institutions based on innovative ideas, technologies, sustainability and quality-related initiatives. Out of two, One project (by the students of GCW Anantnag) entitled “Safe Air: Carbon Monoxide Monitoring with Automated Ventilation” was adjudicated as second prize winner and it addresses the very important issue of places with harsh cold winters like in Kashmir where many lives are lost due to carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning due to bukharis and hamams, the traditional heating systems used in winters. Another project by the students of GCW Anantnag presents a sustainable city that addresses the challenge of rapid urbanization and global climate change. Both the projects were highly appreciated in the event. Prof. Imteyaz Ahmed, Mentor standard Club, GCW Anantnag and Prof. Mohd Ilyas accompanied the students as additional science teacher.
