Event Details

REPORT The Department of Psychology organized a lecture on the theme “Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies” on 11th October 2025. The lecture aimed to create awareness about the importance of mental health services during crises and emergencies, emphasizing the challenges and strategies involved in ensuring timely psychological support for affected populations. The event was conducted under the patronage of the worthy Principal, GDCW Anantnag, Prof. (Dr.) Masood Ahmad Malik. The distinguished speaker for the session was Dr. Mansoor Ahmad Dar, Head, Department of Psychiatry, Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag. Dr. Dar delivered an insightful and thought-provoking lecture focusing on the psychological consequences of catastrophes and emergencies and the need to strengthen mental health systems for effective crisis response. The program was moderated by Ms. Azha Bashir, a 1st semester student of Psychology. Prof. Shamsul Din, Head, Department of Psychology and Coordinator of the Program, warmly welcomed the guest and the audience, highlighting the relevance of the topic in today’s world. The lecture was attended by faculty members, students, who actively participated in the discussion and interacted with the resource person. The session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Arif Hussain Wani, expressing gratitude to the speaker, the principal, and all participants for making the event successful.
