Principals Message

It gives me immense pleasure to extend a warm welcome to you on behalf of Government Degree College for Women, Anantnag — a proud institution that has been a beacon of learning and empowerment for women since its inception in 1979. Born with a modest beginning of 21 students, 7 faculty members, and a single building of nine rooms, the College has flourished over the past four decades into a dynamic institution of higher learning. Today, our college stands tall with a strength of about 3000 students, a committed faculty of 121 members, and a robust infrastructure spread over 35 kanals in the heart of Anantnag city. We offer a rich bouquet of 42 courses and 6 programs across diverse disciplines, supported by modern ICT-enabled classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, a vibrant library, computer labs, browsing centers, and a central instrumentation facility. Facilities such as an auditorium, indoor stadium, health centre, gym, canteens, and hostels create a holistic learning environment for our students.

Our vision is to emerge as a centre of academic excellence and a torchbearer for women’s emancipation and empowerment in the region. The College’s mission is deeply rooted in preparing morally upright, socially responsible, and professionally capable young women, ready to meet contemporary global challenges with confidence and clarity.

In alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the College is proactively introducing reforms such as increasing the Gross Enrolment Ratio, implementing the 3+1 Honours model, vocationalizing education, enhancing skill development, and integrating technology to meet the evolving educational needs.

I invite you to explore our College, be part of its vibrant academic culture, and witness how we nurture not just careers, but character and conviction.
