Government College for Women (GCW) Anantnag Report of the Programme One–Day Intra-College Seminar on “Civic Duties and Social Responsibilities of Citizens” under Sewa Parv-2025 Campaign The Debates and Seminar Committee of Government College for Women (GCW) Anantnag in collaboration with District Administration Anantnag—District Information Officer (DIO) organized One–Day Intra-College Seminar on “Civic Duties and Social Responsibilities of Citizens” under Sewa Parv-2025 Campaign on 24-09-2025 in the college auditorium. The Program commenced with the introductory remarks by worthy Principal of Government College for Women, Anantnag, Prof. Masood Ahmad Malik. In his remarks, Prof. Masood Ahmad Malik deliberated on the theme of the seminar and welcomed the guests. He meticulously pointed out the significance of civic duties as well as social responsibilities of citizens and what that means for a healthy and developed nation. Principal sir brilliantly substantiated the message of the theme by citing examples from the college campus as well as citing the example of Japan and underlined the need to be conscious of one’s duties and especially for students to learn to live for others. Following the introductory remarks, number of students participated as speakers and delivered on the multifaceted dimensions of civic duties and social responsibilities in a vibrant democratic setup. The students highlighted the role of civic sense and a good citizen for building a Viksit Bharat. Others also pointed out that while the state/country has been providing us rights and in some cases some exceptional privileges as citizens, however we also owe to our country back. As social beings, we have special social responsibilities towards each other as well as our community, society and country—the social and political extension of a human being. In the penultimate section of the program, it was Prof. Farooq Ahmad Malik, the Convener, Debates and Seminar Committee as well as Head of the Department of Political Science delivered a special lecture on the said theme. Prof. Farooq extensively discussed the conceptual underpinnings and empirical indices that drive the discourse on civic duties, civic sense, responsibilities of an enlightened and socially aware citizen. Prof Farooq Ahmad Malik deliberated the role of state/country in shaping and shoving the life of its citizens and also emphasized on the role and responsibilities of socially and politically vibrant citizenship in making a socially better and politically vibrant and transparent nation. Prof Farooq cited the constitution of our country and how it gave us a detailed list of civic and social duties that help us in becoming educated citizens. Besides academic deliberations, the event also has a cultural element wherein artists from District Administration performed and highlighted the menace of drug addiction and also the virtue of performing one’s duties and social responsibilities. The event was moderated by Fatima Jeelani, a 5th semester student from the college. The event was concluded by a formal vote of thanks by Prof. Zahid Ahmad, department of Zoology. The whole programme was conducted under the overall supervision of Worthy Principal, Prof. Masood Ahmad Malik.
